The development of crime in areas with increased industrial hall construction in the period 2013–2022

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of crime in areas where industrial zones have been established in recent years. The theoretical part concentrates on the concepts of crime and the NIMBY phenomenon, which can influence project implementation in two ways—it can either complicate project processes or encourage innovative approaches that take into account environmental and social aspects. Another theoretical framework used is G. S. Becker's theory of crime, which suggests that crime rates may decrease with the increase of penalties. Studies show that the size of a city and the presence of marginalized areas have a direct impact on the crime rate. The practical part of the thesis examines the Cheb region, which has seen substantial industrial zone expansion. Crime in Cheb was analyzed using orthophotographs and compared with data from the entire Czech Republic and Česká Lípa, where no significant industrial expansion has occurred. The results show that crime rates in Cheb are close to the national average, and the crime trend in Cheb is similar to that in Česká Lípa, indicating no direct link between industrial zone expansion and crime rates. Analyses at the regional level and the relationship between crime and unemployment showed a weak correlation. A survey conducted among Cheb residents confirmed concerns about the potential impact of industrial facilities on crime rates, though these concerns were not supported by objective data. The findings suggest that factors influencing crime are more complex and involve more aspects than just the presence of industrial facilities. The thesis highlights the need for ongoing monitoring and research into the effects of urban development on safety and quality of life, as well as the importance of transparent communication with the public.
