These are primarily children of preschool age who are just getting to know digital technologies. In this case, the parents play the primary role in the selection of educational and entertainment activities or viewed content. They also control the length and conditions of the child's engagement with digital technologies. The aim of this work is primarily to find out what parents of the digital age want to focus on in this issue, more precisely, which content on YouTube they would like to make available to their children and which, on the contrary, they would like to avoid. Furthermore, the goal is to explore and compare currently available tools that could help parents apply these preferences automatically without the need for continuous control and direct intervention in the selection of videos viewed by children. The work is divided into two main parts. In the first theoretical part, the basic concepts associated with parenting in the digital age, the main trends and problems are presented. The following is a description of the YouTube platform, the history of its development, a list of services offered and an explanation of the algorithm for recommended videos. Finally, the concept of parental control tools is briefly introduced, including the most popular applications for controlling children's access to YouTube content. The second part is dedicated to practical research. Using a survey author seeks answers to questions such as "How and why do parents use YouTube in education?", "How do they make it available to their children?", "Which content do they prefer/want to limit?" and "What is their interest in YouTube content management?", "What is important to them when choosing such an application?". Based on the obtained information, criteria and a sample scenario are then determined, with the help of which the selected tools are compared. The result of the work is the selection of tools that best meet the set criteria, an evaluation of how well they cover the needs of parents and children in the digital age. This information can serve as input for developing similar apps, conducting further research in the field of digital parenting, or as an orientation tool for nowadays ‘parents who are just starting to introduce their children to the digital world. |
