Interpretation of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Czech Republic

This thesis explores the issue of interpreting UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage in the Czech Republic, focusing on nine cultural elements inscribed on the Representative List of UNESCO. The primary goal is to analyze their significance, current methods of presentation, and sustainability potential. The thesis employs a qualitative methodology based on semi-structured interviews with experts and representatives of institutions involved in the management and preservation of these cultural elements. Key hypotheses include examining the interest of younger generations in intangible cultural heritage, evaluating the adequacy of public financial support, and analyzing the legislative framework for protecting intangible cultural heritage. The findings reveal the diversity of approaches to managing and preserving individual elements, as well as ongoing challenges in promotion, financing, and sustainable development. The insights lead to recommendations, including strengthening legislative protection, increasing financial support, and fostering cooperation among state, regional, and non-profit stakeholders. Emphasis is placed on modern marketing strategies and the use of digital technologies. This thesis contributes to understanding the significance of intangible cultural heritage as a key element of national identity.
