The impact of the crisis caused by COVID-19 on bilateral trade between the Czech Republic and Germany

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to evaluate the impact of the crisis caused by COVID-19 and the related economic changes on mutual trade between the Czech Republic and Germany. The main objective is to identify and analyze the key factors influencing economic relations between the two countries and determine the sectors most affected by the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The thesis will focus primarily on tracking changes in trade flows, shifts in trade preferences for selected types of commodities, and the trade balance between the Czech Republic and Germany, both before and during the pandemic, in order to conduct a comparative analysis. Specifically, the structure of the economies of both countries will be analyzed individually, including 21st-century trends such as the pandemic crisis and its impact on selected macroeconomic indicators, with the aim of conducting a comparative analysis. Among other aspects, the thesis will assess whether there has been a shift in trade preferences between the two countries and in what way. Measures adopted in connection with the pandemic will also be subjected to analysis. Furthermore, the research will examine whether the pandemic had a long-term impact on trade cooperation and whether structural changes occurred in the trade partnership between the Czech Republic and Germany. The primary goal of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive and thorough evaluation of trade relations between the Czech Republic and Germany in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on identifying the sectors most affected by the crisis and assessing the extent of its impact.
