COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND GENDER SEGREGATION ON THE CZECH LABOUR MARKET IN 2023

The thesis examines the state of gender segregation in the Czech labor market in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2023. The theoretical part defines the key concepts, classifications, measurement methods, causes, and consequences of gender segregation. The primary method employed in the practical part is statistical data analysis, aimed at answering the proposed research questions and confirming or refuting the related hypotheses. The findings indicate that gender segregation is a deeply rooted issue that was slightly exacerbated by the pandemic but did not undergo significant changes. Men and women remain distinctly stratified along traditional gender lines—women are predominantly employed in fields with lower prestige that often demand a high degree of caregiving, whereas men prevail in more physically demanding professions. This imbalance is also evident in vertical segregation, where men consistently and significantly dominate in managerial and hierarchical positions throughout the period under review. The pandemic primarily exposed and highlighted existing inequalities rather than altering their essence. These conclusions emphasize the persistent challenges that must be addressed through targeted measures within economic and social policies. A key priority, outlined in the final chapter of the thesis, is the systematic and regular research and monitoring of gender segregation, providing an essential foundation for effectively addressing this issue.
