Measuring Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise architecture represents a systematic approach to the design, implementation, and management of information systems to align technological resources with an organization’s business strategies. In the era of digital transformation, where businesses face increasing demands for agility and efficiency, measuring enterprise architecture has become increasingly important. Although its proper setup and management significantly impact organizational performance, the systematic evaluation of its effectiveness and benefits remains an underexplored area. The aim of this thesis is to develop a methodology for measuring enterprise architecture that enables an objective assessment of its impact on business objectives and the optimization of technological resources. The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes existing approaches to evaluating enterprise architecture, with a particular focus on methods derived from the TOGAF framework and other international standards. Key measurement areas are subsequently identified, allowing organizations to better quantify the benefits of enterprise architecture, including its strategic alignment, change management efficiency, and technological adaptability. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the design and application of new metrics, which were validated through a case study conducted within a specific organization. The selected metrics were tested on real-world data to assess their explanatory power and contribution to IT strategy management. The results indicate that systematic measurement of enterprise architecture not only enhances strategic decision-making but also optimizes technological investments and increases operational efficiency. This thesis contributes to the development of measurement methods in the field of enterprise architecture and provides organizations with tools for effective project management. The proposed framework can serve as a support tool for long-term strategic planning and decision-making regarding technological innovations, thereby enhancing organizational competitiveness in the digital environment.
