Gender inequality in the Visegrad Four countries: a comparative study

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of gender inequality in the Visegrad Group countries and selected Nordic countries, specifically Sweden and Finland. The aim of this thesis is to identify the institutional background for the issue of gender inequality in Sweden and Finland and in the V4 countries, and to evaluate the differences in the approach of state institutions to this problem. In the first part of the thesis, gender inequality is defined and possible causes of this phenomenon in individual regions are identified. Then, the thesis compares the methods of measuring gender inequality and international organizations that publish data and analyses of this phenomenon. The thesis also separately addresses the role of the European Union in addressing this issue. The second part of the thesis focuses on the comparison of gender inequality in the V4 countries, Sweden and Finland, and on the identification of specific legislation and other institutional measures. Finally, the thesis evaluates the differences between the individual countries that were examined.
