Tourism on Selected Farms in the Republic of Namibia

The bachelor’s thesis focuses on analysing a selected farm from the tourism perspective in the Republic of Namibia, examined within the context of sustainability. A key theme is the research of the impacts of international regulations tightening the conditions for the import of hunting trophies into European Union countries, about the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), including its listed parts. The thesis includes a typology of selected Namibian farms based on their business activities (e.g., safari tourism, trophy hunting and conservation, cattle farming), emphasizing their integration with tourism. Further attention is given to the sustainability of tourism, including ethical concerns related to hunting wild animals. Based on available documents and findings from semi-structured interviews with the owners of the Namibian hunting farm Jagdfarm Aurora, a case study is conducted that describes the operation of the farm, the influence of international regulations, and the farm’s approach to sustainability. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of farm-based tourism in Namibia and assess its preparedness and ability to respond to changes, not only in international legislation.
