Business Environment in the Czech-German Tri-Border Region

This bachelor’s thesis analyzes the business environment in the cross-border region of the Czech-German tri-border area, with a particular focus on the towns of Aš, Selb, and Oelsnitz. The thesis combines two complementary approaches: a qualitative review of major regional enterprises and a quantitative analysis of indicators influencing the business environment, using a regression model and a scoring model. Based on the findings, the study evaluates the Lex Aš legislative proposal, which aims to introduce a special economic zone and innovative tools to support entrepreneurship in the region. The results indicate that the business environment in the German towns is, in some respects, more attractive than on the Czech side, which affects entrepreneurial activity and the structure of the local labor market. Moreover, the proposed measures under Lex Aš are shown to have the potential to improve conditions on the Czech side of the border. The added value of this thesis lies in its combination of two methodological approaches applied to a rarely studied area and in the practical assessment of the potential impact of the proposed measures. The thesis contributes to the current understanding of the business environment in the Czech-German border region and offers new insights for the development of regional growth strategies.
