Integration of Qualified Immigrants into the Labor Market in Germany

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to describe the development of qualified immigration to Germany and to evaluate the integration of qualified immigrants from Ukraine and India in selected sectors of the German labor market. Germany has long ranked among the strongest economies in the European Union and has recently become a destination country for qualified immigrants from third countries, including Ukraine and India. The integration of qualified workers is crucial for strengthening the German economy and labor market, which has been facing a long-term shortage of skilled labor. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter provides a theoretical basis for understanding migration and integration, focusing on the definition of key terms related to this issue. The second chapter deals with the development of qualified immigration to Germany, first examining the overall development of qualified and labor immigration and then focusing on the immigration of selected groups of qualified immigrants. The third chapter analyzes the integration of qualified immigrants from Ukraine and India into the German labor market based on employment in four selected sectors: the information and communication technology sector, healthcare sector, education and teaching sector, and real estate and professional, scientific, and technical services sector. Insufficient recognition of foreign qualifications can be considered one of the challenges limiting a successful integration process. Germany has taken important steps toward integrating qualified immigrants through the Skilled Immigration Act. Simplifying the qualification recognition process and investing in language education would contribute to more efficient use of the labor potential of qualified immigrants and their long-term employment in the German labor market.
