Risks Associated with the Implementation of a Modernized Point-of-Sale System at SPORTISIMO s.r.o

The implementation of modernised point-of-sale systems in the retail sector represents a complex process that entails a range of technological and organisational risks. Sportisimo s.r.o. embarked on the transformation of its existing point-of-sale solution due to technological obsolescence and suboptimal cooperation with the original vendor. The aim of this thesis was to identify and characterise the risks encountered during the implementation of the new point-of-sale system at Sportisimo, and to compare them with risks described in the professional literature. To achieve the objective, methods associated with qualitative research were chosen. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with key project participants and subsequently processed using thematic analysis. The identified risks were mapped to the individual phases of the implementation process and compared with findings from the professional literature. The results revealed that the key risks included technological issues related in particular to performance limitations, database growth and complicated communication with the point-of-sale system vendor. Additionally, risks specific to the environment of Sportisimo were identified, reflecting the unique conditions of the project, such as expansion into foreign markets. In conclusion, the thesis provides practically applicable insights not only for Sportisimo in case of future point-of-sale system implementations, but also for other organisations considering the modernisation of their point-of-sale systems. The identified risks and their systematisation contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with point-of-sale system implementations and enrich the existing professional discussion in the field of IT project risk management.
