Root Cause Analysis of an E-sports Organization’s Persistent Deficit

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the analysis of root causes behind the long-term persistent unprofitability of an e-sports organization. The primary objective was to identify immediate causes by applying the methods of root cause analysis, particularly the Ishikawa diagram and the 5 Whys technique, supported by qualitative interviews with top-level managers from e-sports organizations. The analysis also included an examination of typical turning points within an e-sports organization, using a specific case company for illustrative purposes. The analysis identified three key root causes: a lack of innovation and reliance on traditional methods, an emphasis on short-term results without a long-term strategy, and excessive performance-oriented thinking. Based on these findings, the thesis proposes measures and recommendations, the implementation of which could lead to the reevaluation of managerial practices and subsequent improvement of the economic outcomes of entities operating within the e-sports sector.
