Post-crisis socio-economic development of European countries

The bachelor thesis analyses the impact of recent macroeconomic shocks on the socio-economic development of twelve European countries in the period 2020-2023. The thesis focuses on a comparative analysis of GDP, inflation, unemployment and public debt across the euro area countries, the European Union member states with their own currency and European countries outside the European Union. Based on the index of deviations from projected developments, the most significant negative impacts were found in the European Union member states with their own currency, not in the euro area countries. Thus, the hypothesis of greater vulnerability among euro area countries was not confirmed. The thesis provides new insights into the role of institutional frameworks, the degree of economic integration, and the autonomy of economic policy in crisis management.
