Analysis of financial literacy in the EU based on INEV data

This bachelor thesis aims to identify and analyse the key factors influencing the level of financial and economic knowledge among secondary school students in the Czech Republic. In the context of the increasing complexity of the financial environment and the need to strengthen financial literacy among the young generation, it is crucial to understand the determinants of this knowledge for targeted educational interventions. The paper uses a quantitative research approach, specifically analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation analysis and multiple linear regression methods, applied to a large dataset created as part of the Economic Olympiad 2024 project, which includes data from nearly 30,000 students across the Czech Republic, supplemented by their individual characteristics, including socio-demographic factors and academic background. Key findings highlight statistically significant effects of the type of attended secondary school, gender, mathematics grade and year of study. The positive effect of having taken an economics/finance course was also confirmed. The effect of regional school affiliation and parental education was not significant in the regression model. The results of this paper point to the need for targeted financial education in light of the identified differences and highlight the importance of developing mathematical and analytical skills.
