Analysis of healthcare expenditures from the perspective of population morbidity in the Czech Republic in 2013–2023

| Abstract: | Diplomová práce analyzuje vztah mezi finančními výdaji na zdravotnictví a zdravotním stavem obyvatel České republiky v letech 2013-2023. Práce integruje teorie lidského kapitálu a modely poptávky po zdravotní péči s cílem posoudit efektivitu alokace zdrojů ve zdravotnictví. Analýza dat z veřejně dostupných zdrojů (ČSÚ, Eurostat) s využitím ekonometrických metod a korelační analýzy odhalila komplexní a mnohostranný vztah mezi výdaji a zdravím. Zásadním zjištěním je, že pouhé navyšování výdajů automaticky nevede ke zlepšení všech zdravotních ukazatelů. Práce poukazuje na potřebu revize alokace zdrojů a cílenější intervence, zejména s ohledem na životní styl občanů. Strategická doporučení zahrnují re-alokaci zdrojů s důrazem na prevenci, cílené intervence pro specifické segmenty populace a posílení vzdáleného monitoringu. Přidaná hodnota práce spočívá v hlubší analýze struktury alokace zdrojů a v identifikaci oblastí s potenciálem pro zlepšení. Práce přináší nový pohled na vztah mezi investicemi a zdravím a nabízí konkrétní, empiricky podložená doporučení pro efektivnější zdravotní politiku. Originálnost spočívá v kombinaci kvantitativního a kvalitativního přístupu s využitím mezinárodního srovnání a v návrhu opatření ke zlepšení zdravotního stavu populace. |

| Abstract: | This diploma thesis analyzes the relationship between financial expenditures on healthcare and the health status of the population of the Czech Republic in the years 2013-2023. The thesis integrates theories of human capital and models of demand for healthcare with the aim of assessing the effectiveness of resource allocation in healthcare. The analysis of data from publicly available sources (CZSO, Eurostat) using econometric methods and correlation analysis revealed a complex and multifaceted relationship between expenditures and health. The main finding is that merely increasing expenditures does not automatically lead to an improvement in all health indicators. The thesis points to the need to revise resource allocation and implement more targeted interventions, especially with regard to the lifestyle of citizens. Strategic recommendations include re allocation of resources with an emphasis on prevention, targeted interventions for specific population segments, and strengthening remote monitoring. The added value of the work lies in a deeper analysis of the structure of resource allocation and in the identification of areas with potential for improvement. The thesis brings a new perspective on the relationship between investments and health, and offers concrete, empirically supported recommendations for a more effective health policy. The originality lies in the combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches, the use of international comparison, and the proposal of measures to improve the health status of the population. |
