| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá uplatněním teoretického konceptu Baumolovy nákladové choroby ve zdravotnictví. Cílem práce je analyzovat, do jaké míry lze rostoucí mzdové náklady ve zdravotnictví tímto konceptem vysvětlit a jaké má tento vývoj implikace pro fiskální politiku. Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. První část poskytuje teoretické zakotvení Baumolovy nákladové choroby a vymezuje klíčové charakteristiky sektorů se stagnující produktivitou. Druhá část se zaměřuje na přehled současného stavu poznání, včetně empirických studií potvrzujících přítomnost tohoto jevu ve zdravotnictví různých zemí. Poslední část představuje vlastní analýzu vybraných makroekonomických a institucionálních dat v České republice v letech 2013–2023. V rámci této části je provedena trendová analýza vývoje mzdových nákladů ve fakultních nemocnicích a souvisejících výdajů Ministerstva zdravotnictví ČR. Dále je zkoumán vztah mezi produktivitou nemocnic, měřenou počtem hospitalizací a ambulantních ošetření, a jejich mzdovými náklady. Výsledky analýzy naznačují přítomnost Baumolovy nákladové choroby a potřebu širší diskuse o dlouhodobé udržitelnosti veřejného financování zdravotní péče. |

| Abstract: | This bachelor thesis focuses on the application of the theoretical concept of Baumol’s cost disease in the healthcare sector. The aim of the thesis is to analyse to what extent the rising wage costs in the healthcare sector can be explained by this concept and what implications this development has for fiscal policy. The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part provides the theoretical grounding of Baumol’s cost disease and identifies the key characteristics of sectors with stagnant productivity. The second part reviews the current state of knowledge, including empirical studies confirming the presence of this phenomenon in the health sectors of different countries. The third part presents an original analysis of selected macroeconomic and institutional data in the Czech Republic between 2013 and 2023. This section includes a trend analysis of the development of wage costs in teaching hospitals and related expenditures of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the relationship between the productivity of hospitals, measured by the number of inpatient and outpatient treatments, and their wage cost is examined. The results of the analysis suggest the presence of Baumol’s cost disease and the need for a broader discussion on the long-term sustainability of public healthcare financing. |
