Implementation of environmental management elements in accommodation facilities in Prague

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to examine the application of environmental management elements in selected accommodation facilities in the center of Prague and to propose recommendations for its more effective implementation. The theoretical part of the thesis explained the concept of environmental management, its advantages and disadvantages, as well as related certifications. Furthermore, individual elements of environmental management were described, such as water and energy conservation, waste management, environmental communication, and employee training. The practical part of the thesis was based on research conducted using a structured questionnaire, which was distributed among representatives of the management of three-star hotels in the Prague 1 area. The questionnaire was designed to comprehensively assess the degree of implementation of environmental management. The questions focused on measures in the areas of energy, water, and heat conservation, reducing the consumption of disposable materials, waste sorting, the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, and motivating employees to behave in an environmentally responsible manner. The results revealed that although most of the establishments use some elements of environmental management, in many cases a systematic approach and comprehensive strategy are missing. The main barriers include high initial investment costs, a lack of human resources, and limited interest on the part of customers. Nevertheless, environmental management is an important tool for increasing sustainability and competitiveness in the hotel services sector.
