This thesis explores the impact of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on EU–Israeli trade relations through a comparative analysis of the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Using framing theory, rational choice theory, and the discourse-historical approach (DHA), it examines how public discourse, media narratives, and economic behavior interact. Survey data and media analysis reveal that while BDS framing resonates within certain activist circles, it fails to achieve broad public consensus or influence state policy. Trade data shows continued growth in economic ties between Israel and both countries, highlighting a disconnect between activist discourse and institutional decision-making grounded in rationalist, cost-benefit logic. The thesis concludes that the BDS movement’s ideological assumptions are largely incompatible with prevailing economic and political realities in the EU and selected member states. |

Tato práce zkoumá dopad hnutí Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) na obchodní vztahy mezi EU a Izraelem prostřednictvím komparativní analýzy České republiky a Nizozemska. S využitím teorie rámcování, teorie racionální volby a diskurzivně-historického přístupu (DHA) se zabývá tím, jak spolu interagují veřejný diskurz, mediální narativy a ekonomické vztahy. Dotazníkové šetření a analýza médií ukazují, že zatímco rámování BDS rezonuje v určitých aktivistických kruzích, nepodařilo se dosáhnout širokého veřejného konsenzu ani ovlivnit politiku státu. Obchodní data ukazují na pokračující růst ekonomických vazeb mezi Izraelem a oběma státy, což podtrhuje rozpor mezi aktivistickým diskurzem a institucionálním rozhodováním založeným na racionální logice nákladů a přínosů. Práce dochází k závěru, že ideologické předpoklady hnutí BDS jsou z velké části neslučitelné s převládajícími ekonomickými a politickými realitami v EU a ve vybraných členských státech. |
