SWOT Analysis of Greenpeace’s Forest and Rainforest Protection Efforts in Brazil and Indonesia Since 2010

This thesis focuses on the diplomatic and political strategies employed by Greenpeace in the protection of tropical forests in Brazil and Indonesia from 2010 to the present. It examines how Greenpeace, in differing political and economic contexts, promotes forest ecosystem protection through direct actions, diplomatic initiatives, the building of international alliances, and media campaigns. The primary methodological framework used is a SWOT analysis, which enables a systematic evaluation of Greenpeace’s internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as the external opportunities and threats affecting its operations. The analysis shows that Greenpeace is capable of effectively mobilizing public support and leveraging international pressure, but it also faces limited financial and personnel resources and a volatile political environment. The findings of this thesis provide an overview of key strategic directions that could enhance the impact of Greenpeace’s forest protection activities. They also contribute to a broader discussion on the role of non-state actors in global environmental diplomacy and the possibilities for increasing the effectiveness of their actions.
