The position of Taiwan in the global semiconductor market

This bachelor’s thesis examines Taiwan’s position in the global semiconductor market. The aim is to identify its current position and the key determinants that define its role within this strategic industry. Another objective is to provide insight into the challenges and risks the country is facing. In the analytical part, a SWOT analysis is conducted to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of Taiwan’s semiconductor sector. Porter’s Five Forces analysis is used to evaluate the competitive environment and the dynamics among industry players. The work is based on current data, expert literature, and real-world examples. Emphasis is placed on the complexity of the global supply chain, the role of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and the geopolitical context. The findings show that Taiwan remains a key player in the production of the world’s most advanced chips. However, its future will depend on its ability to respond to the global chip race, the rise of technological competition in other countries, and an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
