Work productivity and employment in individuals with inflammatory bowel disease

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in the context of work and employment productivity. IBD is a collective term for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which are incurable chronic intestinal diseases. The aim of this study is to map and analyze the impact of these diseases, which are accompanied by a whole range of symptoms that make life unpleasant, on the work productivity of people with this disease in the Czech Republic, to further identify factors that can affect work productivity and to propose recommendations for adjusting working conditions for these people. In the theoretical part, the thesis analyzes available data from published observational studies dealing with similar issues. In the practical part, a questionnaire survey was conducted among groups of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and its subsequent statistical analysis was performed. The results revealed the loss of work productivity associated with this disease, identified the factors that may cause this loss, and mapped the importance of working conditions in terms of patient preferences. Based on these results, recommendations were proposed that can in practice positively affect the work productivity of employees with IBD.
