| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním modelu státního kapitalismu v Kuvajtu, který představuje specifickou formu propojení státu a ekonomiky charakteristickou pro rentiérské státy bohaté na přírodní zdroje. Práce nejprve teoreticky vymezuje pojem státního kapitalismu, popisuje jeho historický vývoj a představuje klíčové nástroje, mezi něž patří státní podniky, tzv. "národní šampioni" a státní suverénní fondy. Následně je zkoumáno hospodářství Kuvajtu v historickém kontextu a role ropy jako zásadního zdroje příjmů a politické moci. Třetí kapitola aplikuje teoretické poznatky na kuvajtský případ a hodnotí významné projevy státního kapitalismu. Rozsáhlou roli státu v ekonomice, fungování státních společností, provázanost státu a vybraných soukromých podniků a fungování Kuvajtského investičního úřadu jako jednoho z největších světových suverénních fondů. Práce rovněž identifikuje hlavní problémy kuvajtského ekonomického modelu, zejména závislost na ropné rentě, slabou diverzifikaci hospodářství a strukturální závislost obyvatelstva na veřejném sektoru. Součástí práce je také zkoumání investičních aktivit kuvajtského státu ve vztahu k České republice. Výsledky ukazují, že Kuvajt naplňuje klíčové znaky státního kapitalismu a že tento model zásadně ovlivňuje jeho ekonomickou i politickou strukturu. |

| Abstract: | This bachelor’s thesis examines the model of state capitalism in Kuwait, which represents a specific form of state–economy interaction typical of rentier states rich in natural resources. The thesis first defines the concept of state capitalism, outlines its historical development, and introduces its key instruments, including state-owned enterprises, so-called “national champions,” and sovereign wealth funds. It then explores the Kuwaiti economy in its historical context and analyses the role of oil as a fundamental source of state revenue and political power. The third chapter applies the theoretical framework to the Kuwaiti case and evaluates the major expressions of state capitalism: the extensive role of the state in the economy, the functioning of state-owned companies, the interconnection between the state and selected private enterprises, and the operations of the Kuwait Investment Authority as one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds. The thesis also identifies the main challenges of Kuwait’s economic model, particularly its dependence on oil rents, limited economic diversification, and the structural reliance of the population on public sector employment. The thesis further examines Kuwait’s investment activities in relation to the Czech Republic. The findings show that Kuwait demonstrates the key characteristics of state capitalism and that this model significantly shapes both its economic and political structures. |
