Resilience and Work Organization of Foreign Dancers in Prague in the Era of the Gig Economy: Flexibility, Uncertainty, and Survival Strategies

This bachelor thesis focuses on the working conditions of foreign dancers operating in Prague within the framework of the gig economy and on the factors influencing their professional stability, flexibility, and strategies for responding to work-related uncertainty. The theoretical part introduces key concepts related to precarity, labour flexibility, creative professions, and migratory vulnerability, which together form the foundation for understanding the specific working environment of freelance dancers. The practical part analyses the lived and work experiences of foreign dancers through qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews. It examines their methods of work organisation, financial and emotional burdens, the impact of migration status, and individual long-term sustainability strategies. The aim of the research is to identify the main barriers affecting dancers’ professional security and job stability, to understand the mechanisms through which they respond to these challenges, and to formulate recommendations that may contribute to improving their working conditions within the context of Prague's gig economy. The findings provide deeper insight into the dynamics of creative and migrant labour and reveal specific forms of precarity faced by this professional group.
