| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá absolutní β-konvergenci a σ-konvergenci mezi 19 španělskými regiony (NUTS 2) v letech 2000–2023 s cílem zjistit, zda se chudší regiony přibližují těm bohatším. Pomocí průřezové OLS regrese dat Eurostatu práce zjišťuje, že celkové tempo konvergence je velmi pomalé (0,71 % ročně) a statisticky nevýznamné. Po vyloučení odlehlých afrických enkláv (Ceuta a Melilla) rychlost stoupne na 1,11 %, přičemž k reálnému sbližování docházelo pouze v období hospodářského růstu (2000–2008). Analýza σ-konvergence ukazuje, že se celkové nerovnosti nesnižují a ekonomika se polarizuje do dvou klubů (hypotéza Twin Peaks). Tento vývoj je důsledkem silných strukturálních bariér, především extrémně nízké mobility pracovní síly a neefektivního systému fiskálních transferů. |

| Abstract: | This bachelor thesis examines absolute β-convergence and σ-convergence among 19 Spanish regions (NUTS 2) between 2000 and 2023 to determine whether poorer regions are catching up to richer ones. Using cross-sectional OLS regression on Eurostat data, the study finds that the overall convergence rate is very slow (0.71% per year) and statistically insignificant. Excluding the outlying African enclaves (Ceuta and Melilla), the rate increases to 1.11%, with real catch-up occurring only during the economic boom period (2000–2008). The σ-convergence analysis reveals that overall inequalities are not decreasing and the economy is polarizing into two clubs (Twin Peaks hypothesis). This development is driven by strong structural barriers, notably extremely low labor mobility and an inefficient system of fiscal transfers. |
