Senegalese Cultural Specifics in the Workplace

This bachelor thesis examines Senegalese cultural specifics within the work environment. In terms of effective integration and business activities in the region, knowledge of cultural standards is essential. The primary objective of the thesis is to identify cultural factors influencing professional interactions, and using Geert Hofstede's methodology, to determine a score for the Indulgence versus Restraint dimension for Senegal. The theoretical part defines dimensional models by Hofstede and Trompenaars. Furthermore, the specifics of intercultural communication, the role of the informal sector, and the influence of family relationships on employee decision-making are described. An analysis of religion, the phenomenon of Teranga, and the social value of Sutura facilitates an understanding of the specific traits of local work ethics. Primary research, based on a questionnaire survey, presents a value that classifies Senegal as an indulgent culture. Qualitative interviews subsequently complement these data with a deeper interpretation of professional values. Finally, recommendations for effective cooperation in the country are formulated.
