Security issues affecting travel industry

The aim of the study is to evaluate the possible correlation between the security issues and travel industry with regards to political turbulences from the local to the global level as well as various forms of political instability. The hypothesis statement is that security issues, mainly political instability in a form of terrorism, civil unrest and wars, significantly deter tourist arrivals in a given destination. The first two chapters discuss the problem from the theoretical point of view. The main terms with regards to the topic are described: mainly tourism, attractions, tourist, visitor and excursionist. Moreover, the significance of tourism is analyzed in terms of economic and political contribution. Furthermore, the security issues are distinguished with relation to tourism. The third chapter deals with two specific case studies: the terrorist attacks and revolutions in Egypt and recent annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation. The case studies examined in the practical part illustrated that any sort of security issue in a country such as terrorism, violent demonstrations, civil wars or international conflicts deter the tourism demand on a specific destination. Moreover, the security incidents lead to deceleration of tourism industry development and decreasing income of local tourist businesses.
