Politika deregulace prezidenta J. Cartera a její dopady na leteckou dopravu v období 70. a 80. let 20. století

The bachelor's thesis examines the impact of President Jimmy Carter's deregulation in the context of oil shocks in the field of air transport. In this work, a scientific hypothesis is tested as follows: As a result of the first oil shock, deregulation in the field of air transport was necessary, which resulted in an increase in the number of air transport companies and passengers transported in the following decade. In connection with the testing of hypotheses, the thesis seeks an answer to several sub-questions, which read: Which industries or services did the policy of deregulation generally concern? How were the airlines (Pan American World Airways, Southwest Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Continental Airlines) able to respond and adapt to deregulatory policies during the 1980s? What effect did this policy have on the price change in air transport? The thesis describes the changes in air cargo and passenger transport in the USA, the impact on safety and air transport tariffs. Furthermore, the paper compares the number of airlines, transported passengers and air miles. Using data on the amount of profits and the number of transported passengers, the impact of deregulation on Southwest Airlines and Pan American World Airways is analyzed. In the course of the work, the hypothesis is confirmed and answers to the research questions are found. Deregulation of air transport resulted in an increase in the number of airlines and passengers carried in the following decade. Some airlines have entered the market and others have left the market. The increase in the number of passengers most likely contributed to the wide use of discounts that airlines began to offer and lower average prices of tariffs adjusted for inflation
