This effect is examined by logistic regression analysis on data from the World Cup, European Championships, Champions League, and Olympic Games between 2014 and 2022. From the resulting differential effect of stress on performance between men and women, the thesis analyses whether stress is a factor explaining gender inequalities in the labour market. The theoretical section reviews the economic literature on which this paper draws. The empirical part develops two logistic regression models. The results of the thesis suggest the occurrence of "choking under stress" in penalty kicks played by professionals. At the same time, we find a lower decrease in performance for women under increased stress than for men. Thus, stress is not an aspect that explains gender pay inequality in the labour market. |
