This method is based on constructing a synthetic control unit that consists of the weighted averages of the selected subjects. Subsequently, the development of the synthetic and the actual unit is compared, which allows to capture differences between the situation with and without intervention. The results show that after the entry of Slovakia into the eurozone, there was a different development compared to the scenario without the euro. The Slovak economy recorded growth in GDP per capita, while the deviations between real and synthetic Slovakia were around 8% in the years 2010-2016. However, this positive influence gradually weakened in the following years and completely disappeared by 2021. |
