| Abstract: | Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku institucí, institucionálního vývoje a jeho vlivu na ekonomický růst a rozvoj států, konkrétně pak na případ Haiti a Dominikánské republiky. Jedná se o dva karibské státy rozkládající se na ostrově Hispaniola, které byly pro analýzu vybrány na základě teorie geografie. Jejím předpokladem je, že státy se stejnými geografickými a klimatickými podmínkami dosahují podobných hospodářských výsledků. Haiti však patří mezi nejméně rozvinuté státy světa a je nejchudší zemí na západní hemisféře, zatímco Dominikánská republika se řadí mezi země s vyšším středním příjmem. Proti teorii geografie vystupuje teorie institucí a institucionálního vývoje, podle níž jsou rozdíly mezi jednotlivými státy způsobeny odlišným vývojem státních institucí. Cílem této diplomové práce je tedy analyzovat vliv historického vývoje institucí na ekonomický růst a rozvoj státu a na současný stav jeho institucí. Významný prostor je v práci věnován analýze historického vývoje obou států od objevení Evropany až po současnost a to převážně z hlediska proměn politických a ekonomických institucí. Na základě důsledků institucionálního vývoje a jednotlivých dat o hospodářském růstu a sociálních indikátorech ekonomického vývoje práce zhodnocuje, zda se dají současné instituce v obou státech nazvat spíše inklusivními, nebo extraktivními. |

| Abstract: | This diploma thesis is focused on the issue of institutions, institutional change and its influence on economic growth and development. The analysis was conducted on Haiti and Dominican Republic as two Caribbean states sharing one island called Hispaniola. These countries were chosen with regard to a theory of geography which assumes that states with the same geographical and climatic conditions reach the same level of economic growth. However, Haiti is one of the least developed countries in the world and the poorest country in the western hemisphere while Dominican Republic belongs to countries with higher middle income. Theory of institutions oppose the theory of geography and it claims that different historical development of state institutions causes differences between economic levels of states. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to analyse the influence of historical development of institutions on economic growth and development of a country and on the current state of institutions. The thesis is mostly focused on the analysis of historical development and changes of Haitian and Dominican political and economic institutions since the discovery of the island until today. The thesis also include the evaluation of current state of political and economic institutions in terms whether they are inclusive or extractive. |
