Prezentované závěry poslouží k bližšímu porozumění chování komerčních bank, a tedy i problémům spojených s úvěrovou dostupností. |

Abstract: | This paper studies the issue of supply-side factors of the credit market. Specifically, we conduct an empirical research on the extent to which commercial banks may influence the credit cycle. For this purpose, we construct a regression model that analyzes the effect of chosen supply-side determinants on the quarterly credit growth rate in the Czech Republic (2008-2019). We find the evidence that banks‘ perception of credit risk and their share of liquid assets held to cover liquidity risk shocks have only a minor effect on credit supply, in contrast to changes in capital adequacy, where we find statistically significant inverse relationship. In overall, credit supply determinants appear to be not less important than demand-side factors. The presented findings will serve to better understanding of commercial banks‘ behavior and thus to the problems associated with the credit availability. |
