Analysis of the Better life index

This paper deals with the analysis of the Better life index, which assesses the level of well- being in countries on the basis of several aspects, be it from a material point of view through income or housing, but also on the basis of quality of life through education, health or safety and others. A total of 24 variables enter into the calculation of this index, which are divided into 11 sub-indicators and the calculation is therefore quite extensive. The aim of this work is to evaluate the relationships between the variables and the index and then to create a custom index. In order to evaluate these relationships, correlation analysis has been used in this thesis, based on which pairs of variables that can be related to each other have been selected. Then, after justifying this relationship, the variable without which the new index was more consistent with the original one was selected and removed from its calculation. The result is a new reduced index whose range is almost half that of the original Better life index, but whose well-being scores are almost the same as the original Better life index.

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou ukazatele Better life index, který hodnotí míru blahobytu v zemích na základě několika aspektů ať už z materiálního hlediska, pomocí příjmů nebo bydlení, ale také na základě kvality života pomocí vzdělání, zdraví nebo bezpečnosti a dalších. Celkově do výpočtu tohoto indexu vstupuje 24 proměnných, které jsou rozděleny do 11 podukazatelů a tedy výpočet je poměrně rozsáhlý. Cílem této práce je zhodnotit vztahy mezi jednotlivými proměnnými a indexem a následné vytvoření vlastního indexu. Pro zhodnocení těchto vztahů byla v práci použita korelační analýza, na jejímž základě byly vybrány dvojice proměnných, které spolu mohou souviset. Následně byla po opodstatnění tohoto souvisu vybrána proměnná, bez které se nový index shodoval více s původním a byla odebrána z jeho výpočtu. Výsledkem je nový zredukovaný index, jehož rozsah je téměř poloviční, ale blahobyt zhodnotí téměř stejně jako původní Better life index.
