Utilization of infographics for enhancing biology education

This thesis explores the use of infographics to teach biology more effectively. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on defining the terms infographics and multimedia learning to understand the impact of infographics on teaching in a theoretical way. The key part of the thesis is the subsequent description of specific principles and methods that form the ground rules to produce functional infographics. This section include relevant components from marketing, UX design, education and graphic design. In the practical part, the information from the first part of the thesis is applied to to make a new infographic as a teaching tool on a specific biological topic. The functionality and effectiveness of the created infographic teaching aid is then tested against a text-based teaching aid in upper secondary school classrooms. Thus, the aim of the testing was to verify the quality of the new teaching aid and to confirm or refute the hypotheses established on the basis of the information from the theoretical part.
