Abstract:
Cílem mé bakalářské práce je podívat se na pozici Hongkongu jako světového finančního centra z dlouhodobého hlediska. Práci jsem rozdělil na teoretickou a praktickou část. V rámci teoretické části jsem nejprve definoval, co je to světové finanční centrum. Následně jsem představil nejdůležitější finanční centra světa a stručně jsem nastínil jejich historický vývoj. Zmínil jsem především vzestup New Yorku coby světového finančního centra a dále Londýn, který využil svého postavení v rámci velkého trhu Evropské Unie. Nakonec jsem nastínil historický vývoj i samotného Hongkongu a stručně jsem charakterizoval jeho ekonomiku. V praktické části mé bakalářské práce jsem zjišťoval, na kolik je pozice Hongkongu coby světového finančního centra z dlouhodobého hlediska udržitelná. Své bádání jsem směřoval především na dva nejaktuálnější a nejtíživější problémy Hongkongu, a to neutichající protivládní protesty v roce 2019 a následná celosvětová pandemie Covid-19 v roce 2020. Zajímalo mě, nakolik takto závažné problémy ovlivnily ekonomiku Hongkongu a jestli to mělo dopad na postavení Hongkongu ve světě coby světového finančního centra. Nakonec jsem se pokusil o výhled do budoucnosti pomocí PEST analýzy. Zohlednil jsem při tom aktuální kroky vedené Čínskou komunistickou stranou směrem k Hongkongu i narůstající konkurenci v podobě jiných finančních center v Asii, jako je Singapur, Šanghaj či Tokio. Svoji práci jsem zakončil dotazníkovým šetřením.

Abstract:
Aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to examine a position of Hong Kong as a global financial centre from a long-term perspective. I have divided the thesis into theoretical and practical part. Within the theoretical part I started with the definition of a global financial centre. Then I presented the most important financial centres in the world and briefly outlined their historic evolution. I mentioned primarily New York City and London, which became a financial centre of the European Union. Finally I outlined a history of Hong Kong and briefly characterized its economy. In the practical part of my bachelor’s thesis I was dealing with a question whether the position of Hong Kong as a global financial centre in the world is sustainable in the long run. I focused mainly on the two most important a current issues, namely the anti-government protests in 2019 and the global pandemic Covid-19 in 2020. I was wondering how much these serious problems affected the Hong Kong’s economy and whether it had impact on the Hong Kong’s position of the global financial centre in the world. Finally I made the economic outlook using the PEST analysis. I took into consideration current steps made by the Communist Party of China towards Hong Kong, as well as the growing competition among the financial centres in Asia, such as Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo. I ended my thesis with a questionnaire survey.
