The aim of the thesis is to find out how cultural differences between India and Pakistan affect the course of intercultural communication in the negotiations between them and what is the significance of the negotiations in question in terms of their current relations with each other. The cultural differences between India and Pakistan were identified through paradigm analysis and by comparing the countries according to Hofstede's methodology of classification of cultures. The impact of the identified cultural differences on intercultural communication within negotiations is demonstrated through a comparative study of the Lahore (1999) and Agra (2001) summits. The findings lead to the conclusion that cultural differences between countries, through their different values and perceptions of the world, are reflected in their intercultural communication, reducing its effectiveness, and causing misunderstandings. Therefore, knowledge and awareness of these differences, together with efforts to reach mutual understanding, is of paramount importance for the effectiveness of negotiations and intercultural communication. |
