This work aims to evaluate the key challenges faced by basic education in Nigeria in the period from 1999 to 2024. The first chapter explains the basic concepts and identifies the general causes of basic education in developing countries. Based on a search of the available literature, the following challenges were identified: insufficient infrastructure, lack of study and teaching materials, digital gap, lack of qualified and well-trained teachers, economic need for child labor in families, school fees, cultural factors, and absence of facilities for water, sanitation, and hygiene. The second chapter introduces Nigeria from a socio-demographic perspective. In the third chapter, the identified challenges were applied to the case of Nigeria. The findings indicate that Nigeria faces all the identified challenges. It also highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to address these problems to ensure universal access to quality basic education for all Nigerian children. |
