Structural problems and the debt crisis of the Greek economy from the perspective of the theory of optimal currency areas

The thesis focuses on the eurozone debt crisis from the perspective of the Greek economy. The thesis focuses on a more detailed description of the economic and structural problems of the Greek economy, a description of Greek debt crisis, the fulfilment of the OCA criteria, an evaluation of Greece's accession to EMU, and a proposal of possible solutions to Greece's problems (or the entire EMU) at both the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. The main aim of the thesis is to show that the eurozone debt crisis was caused not only by the over-indebtedness of “the southern wing” of the euro area and the aftermath of the global economic crisis started in 2008, but also by problems within the member states themselves linked to internal and external imbalances.
